Reuse and Community: AUS Summer Gathering

On 7 July, AUS spent an afternoon dedicated to reuse in architecture, together with Recursos Urbans (URRU), culminating in an informal gathering and the traditional AUS summer dinner.

The event began at La Farinera del Clot  with a guided tour of the exhibition “The City as a Resource”, which we had the opportunity to discover first-hand through the explanations of Pol Miret, from Recursos Urbans.

Through exemplary projects and experiences related to reuse, the exhibition invites us to rethink cities and existing buildings as resource banks and to explore new ways of transforming the built environment by making use of existing materials and components.

We then attended the conference “Reuse in Architecture”, featuring Cláudia Escaleira and Jonny Pugh from NADANOVO, and Floris Schiferli, founder of SUPERUSE. The session offered insights into international experiences and approaches that already incorporate reuse as a practical design strategy.

The conference also encouraged audience participation, giving attendees the opportunity to ask the speakers questions and share doubts and reflections on the role of reuse in architectural practice.

The afternoon continued with an informal gathering at the bar of La Farinera del Clot, before the return of the traditional AUS summer dinner.

The gathering gave us the opportunity to bring the first half of the year to a close together, strengthen connections within the AUS community, and enjoy a more relaxed moment before the summer holidays.

AUS would like to extend its special thanks to Recursos Urbans (URRU) for the invitation and for organising the activities.
