Visit to the AMB Exhibition “Futur immediat”

On 22 July, a group of AUS members visited the exhibition organised by the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB), a showcase highlighting the quality of the projects promoted by the institution and the way sustainability is integrated across its architectural and urban practice.

The visit was led by Albert Gassull, Director of the Public Space Service at the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB) and an AUS member. He guided us through the exhibition “Futur immediat” Transformar l’espai públic metropolità, explaining its structure, the principles behind its conception, and the various projects on display. His insights enabled us to understand not only the content of the exhibition but also the strategic vision underpinning the AMB’s approach to public space and sustainability.

Throughout the visit, we explored how sustainability principles are translated into concrete design decisions, including the efficient management of resources, green infrastructure, climate change adaptation, biodiversity, the quality of public spaces, and the enhancement of people’s well-being. The exhibition demonstrates the fundamental role that public authorities can play in transforming our cities into more resilient and sustainable places.

At AUS, we would like to congratulate the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB) on the vision guiding its projects, the sustainability principles that underpin them, the high quality of the work carried out, and the outstanding curatorial work behind an exhibition that communicates these values with clarity, rigour and inspiration.

This visit was organised jointly with the Green Building Council España (GBCe), a partner organisation with which we share a commitment to driving the transformation of the building sector towards more sustainable, healthier and decarbonised models.

This was the final activity for AUS members before the summer break. With this visit, we conclude an intense season filled with debates, technical visits, and opportunities for exchange that have strengthened the AUS community and reinforced our commitment to a more sustainable approach to architecture.

We look forward to seeing you again in September, with new activities, new opportunities for learning, and a shared enthusiasm for continuing to build knowledge together.
