Architects for Sustainability

AuS ARCHITECTS

We are an association within the Architects’ Association of Catalonia (COAC).

At AuS, we work to achieve sustainable habitats for the well-being of the planet and its inhabitants. We advocate for a construction sector based on a model that does not generate climate change, minimizes energy and waste demand, and preserves natural heritage. We are committed to architecture and urban planning that is carbon-free, resilient, efficient, culturally rooted, and a driver of social transformation.

DECARBONIZING ARCHITECTURE

Architecture is a key discipline on the path toward the decarbonization of Europe by 2050, as called for by the European Green Deal (2019). For this reason, AuS and the Architects’ Association of Catalonia (COAC), together with the Higher Council of Colleges of Architects of Spain (CSCAE) and the Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE-CAE), are promoting the Decarbonizing Architecture project, with the aim of leading the energy transition of the building sector through ARCHITECTURE. The new Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) and the New European Bauhaus are key tools to drive this paradigm shift.

We have set up a dedicated page that gathers all relevant documentation on the decarbonization of architecture: videos of conferences, news, regulations, and event information, among others. You will find useful resources to stay up to date with a comprehensive view of sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives in architecture.

We invite you to explore it and make the most of its contents to contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future.

OUR PROPOSAL

WHAT WE PROPOSE

We propose an active, proactive, and critical AuS, committed to transforming our society toward more sustainable living models that respect health and well-being.

We aim to promote better practices within the profession, demand legal frameworks and funding tools from policymakers, and raise awareness in society.

We advocate for a more open, inclusive, and approachable AuS that, while working toward a more sustainable model, also creates spaces for meeting, debate, collective learning, and networking among members—an essential element for the future of the Association.

WHAT WE WANT TO ACHIEVE

We want a more sustainable environment, with models that help mitigate and adapt to climate change, reduce energy demand and waste production, and preserve natural heritage.

We are committed to recovering the productive potential of the territory and participating in the major debates that shape a more sustainable model.

From the COAC and with a cohesive community, we can generate impact and drive this necessary paradigm shift through architecture.

OBJECTIVES

At AuS, as part of the COAC, we want to reinforce our commitment as architects and promote a model of architecture and urbanism that is more sustainable: carbon-free, resource-efficient, culturally rooted, and a driver of social transformation.

We not only aim to raise awareness within the profession and society about this transition, but also to provide the tools to make it possible.

For this reason, we actively engage in social, technical, and regulatory processes, contributing perspectives that advance sustainability and denouncing those that hinder its implementation.
