OBJECTIVE

In the transition to a decarbonized and circular architecture, it is evident that there are more indicators that need to be reevaluated. In WG5 we make visible all those variables that have to do with healthy architecture; from the emissions of materials to aspects of circadian light. We rely on the physical, chemical, biological and psychosocial criteria that are part of the design processes, to feed the tools and processes in this transition to a new architectural culture more sustainable and healthy.

WHAT WE ARE WORKING ON

We are analyzing the different regulations on volatile organic compounds that are in force in Europe, with the aim of determining which would be the most appropriate option to implement in Spain. We are also considering the possibility of incorporating health criteria in the current building book.

WHAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED

Our research and outreach at Architecture and Health congresses, which have already held 7 successful editions, support our search for solutions. In addition, we are among a group of like-minded people with similar interests, which further strengthens our commitment.

Our research and outreach at Architecture and Health congresses, which have already held 7 successful editions, support our search for solutions. We also find ourselves among a group of like-minded people who share the same cause, which further strengthens our commitment.

PROJECTS CARRIED OUT

Within the trajectory of the working group on health and architecture, several achievements have been made: the creation of the Management Commission of the Catalan Society of Architecture and Health within the Academy of Medical Sciences, and support for the creation of the SOCSA (Catalan Society of Environmental Health). The tool “espais interiors saludables” of the OCT has been released and is open to all members. Likewise, awareness campaigns have been promoted under the slogan “investing in architecture is to improve your health”, which has 6 informative videos, flyers and a campaign that accompanies the COAC stands at fairs and events. There have also been specific round tables on paints, telecommunications technologies, and of course the Architecture and Health Congresses.
